About The Position

The IT Business Applications Intern will support Viaflex’s business systems, data, and technology initiatives while gaining hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. The intern will work closely with the IT team to support the ERP environment, troubleshoot and resolve user support requests, assist with data warehouse and reporting initiatives, and explore practical applications of artificial intelligence and automation. The internship is intended for a student pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field who is interested in applying technology to real business problems. It provides exposure to enterprise applications, cloud technologies, databases, data analytics, artificial intelligence, business processes, and IT project work. The intern will work with an assigned mentor and manager to complete internship goals and projects, participate in Viaflex-sponsored events, and present a summary of work, lessons learned, and recommendations at the end of the summer.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Currently pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, Data Science, Business Analytics, or a related technical field.
Foundational understanding of computer science concepts, software applications, databases, and information systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to break down unfamiliar problems and investigate potential solutions.
Ability to work with data, recognize inconsistencies, validate results, and communicate findings.
Ability to learn new applications, technologies, and business processes quickly.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical team members.
Ability to document technical processes, troubleshooting steps, and solutions clearly and in an organized manner.
Curiosity and initiative to identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and better use of technology.

Nice To Haves

Coursework, academic projects, or previous experience involving programming, databases, data analytics, artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, or enterprise applications.
Previous internship or professional IT experience.
Familiarity with SQL and relational databases; experience writing basic queries.
Exposure to one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, Java, C#, or similar technologies.
Interest in artificial intelligence, generative AI, machine learning, large language models, and emerging technology, with the ability to think critically about applying these technologies to business problems.

Responsibilities

Investigate application issues with IT team members and business users, identify root causes, document findings, and assist with implementing solutions.
Assist with configuring, testing, and developing ERP functionality, integrations, workflows, reports, and process automation.
Support data warehouse, reporting, and analytics initiatives through data validation, troubleshooting, documentation, and development activities.
Assist with writing and reviewing SQL queries and working with relational data for troubleshooting, reporting, and analysis.
Research, evaluate, and prototype practical applications of artificial intelligence, generative AI, and automation in IT and business processes.
Identify opportunities for AI or automation to improve productivity, information access, business processes, data analysis, or user support.
Participate in daily morning stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, and sprint retrospective meetings as needed.
Collaborate with IT, business users, vendors, and other project stakeholders as needed.
Participate in Viaflex-sponsored events.
Work with an assigned mentor and manager to complete internship goals and assigned projects.
Complete and present a summer-end internship presentation highlighting work completed, lessons learned, and recommendations.
