About The Position

The IT Business Analyst leads the planning and execution of business analysis activities to ensure that business problems and opportunities are clearly understood, translated into high‑quality, testable requirements, and that implemented solutions deliver measurable value for the City of Garland.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree
  • 4 years related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Proficient knowledge of User Acceptance Testing (UAT) methodologies and documentation
  • Basic knowledge of networking, PCs, servers and database systems
  • Proficient in requirements gathering techniques, creation of technical specifications, process mapping, system testing and deployment
  • Knowledge with core business systems including CRM, ERP, work management, document management, collaboration, business intelligence and process automation
  • Understanding of application software systems from an end-user perspective
  • Comprehensive writing and presentation skills

Nice To Haves

  • 4 year college degree in Computer Technology, Management Information Systems, Management or related field of study
  • 4-5 years experience in business analysis, application support, application development or systems implementation
  • Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) or ability to attain certification within first year of employment

Responsibilities

  • Liaise with a range of users in the organization to lead and document business needs, conduct requirements gathering and define scope and objectives.
  • Review and analyze existing business processes and application systems to develop strategies for improvement through new technology or alternative uses of existing technology.
  • Facilitate requirements review and approval sessions with sponsors, business process owners, subject matter experts, and IT teams to build shared understanding and obtain formal agreement before development or configuration begins.
  • Research and review information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, develop business process understanding, and work with customers to uncover unmet business needs.
  • Coordinate and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) of application systems after modifications or updates.
  • Coordinate in-depth tests, including end-user reviews, documenting results, and tracking the resolution for modified and new systems.
  • Maintain current knowledge of enterprise systems and technologies to effectively assess impacts and recommend solutions.
  • Provides guidance and mentorship to staff to support their professional development and effective job performance.
