About The Position

The State Auditor's Office (SAO) is seeking current employees for an internal-only IT Auditor 4 position focused on Systems Audit. This role is for individuals who have demonstrated consistent high performance as an Assistant State Auditor 3+ and have an approved IT4 proposal. The IT Auditor 4 is a specialized expert responsible for leading the most complex system reviews, which may involve multiple state agencies or levels of government. This position has overall responsibility for IT audit engagements from planning and developing statewide IT testing strategies to conducting, overseeing audit methodologies, and reporting. The role may involve leading multiple IT audit staff or highly technical IT environments. The System Application Auditors within the SAO audit software applications used across the State, independently pinpointing application vulnerabilities and scrutinizing application controls to identify critical risks and analyze application-level security. This position offers a hybrid work environment and flexible schedule options.

Requirements

  • Current Office of the Washington State Auditor employee.
  • Successfully achieved consistent high rankings as an Assistant State Auditor 3+.
  • Have an ITLT approved IT4 pre-approved proposal.
  • Developed skills and knowledge beyond the expectations of an IT Auditor 3+ in relation to auditing AI specific system applications.
  • Identified appropriate framework criteria for auditing AI systems.
  • Created a risk assessment specifically to identify key risks associated with AI systems.
  • Created comprehensive testing strategies for auditing AI systems.
  • Presented the completion of their proposal to ITA Leadership Team (ITLT).
  • Obtained a certification, such as a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or technical equivalent certification, to be eligible for IT Auditor 4 inter-agency career advancement posting opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead auditor of the largest and most complex system reviews, potentially involving multiple state agencies or local governments.
  • Have overall responsibility for assigned IT audit engagements or projects from planning to reporting.
  • Develop statewide IT testing strategies.
  • Conduct and oversee the implementation of audit methodologies.
  • Prepare audit reports for state or local government IT audits.
  • Lead audits or projects that include multiple IT audit staff or highly technical IT environments.
  • Audit software applications used across the State.
  • Independently audit and pinpoint application vulnerabilities.
  • Assist financial and compliance auditors' opinions by scrutinizing application controls and identifying critical risks.
  • Analyze the strength of application-level security.
  • Design audit plans to address key risks.
  • Uncover relevant information needed for the scope of the audit.
  • Analyze manual and automated workflows to build a complete and accurate understanding of the targeted area.
  • Document relevant information and ensure solid support for audit results.
  • Facilitate clear communication with all parties.
  • Test controls, both automated and manual, to validate their effectiveness in supporting the audit scope.
