About The Position

Payments Canada is seeking an Auditor, Internal Audit to support the audit process in planning, execution, and delivery of internal and external audits. This role is crucial for the Internal Audit function at Payments Canada, leveraging technology-related audit knowledge to ensure timely planning and execution while adding value to the audit portfolio. The position plays a foundational role in evolving and creating a best-in-class in-house audit function and requires excellent project and time management skills. The Auditor will maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including management, audit service providers, regulators, and subject matter experts.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in business, finance, technology or a related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in an internal/external auditor or consulting role demonstrating familiarity with the IIA auditing standards.
  • Demonstrated relationship management skills with a proven ability to influence.
  • Eligibility to successfully complete background checks that will be carried out by Payments Canada, including criminal, credit, identity, employment, and education checks

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the conduct of CSAE 3416, 3000 controls testing and Internal Control Over Financial Reporting (ICFR) audits would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Technology and Security frameworks is an asset (ex. SWIFT CSP, ISO 27001, ITIL)
  • Experience in operations support and/or Service Desk environment is considered an asset.
  • Relevant designation or certifications (i.e., CPA, CIA, CISA, CISSP, ISO 27001 Lead Auditor) is preferred, and candidates who are actively pursuing such credentials will also be considered.
  • Experience working with payments systems is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of the 3-year risk-based internal audit plan and the overall internal audit strategy.
  • Ensure internal audit practices leverage industry best practices and external requirements for continual improvement.
  • Support change management initiatives and assist in facilitating educational materials, workshops, and lessons-learned activities.
  • Contribute to the planning and conduct of internal audits, ensuring rigorous documentation according to established methodology and standards.
  • Assist in evaluating system designs and internal control frameworks, identifying opportunities for enhanced efficiency.
  • Support the production of high-quality, clear audit reports for Senior Management and monitor the ongoing remediation of audit findings.
  • Provide logistical support and coordinate activities for external audits conducted by third-party service providers.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with data stewards, IT teams, and key stakeholders to deeply understand core business processes and applications.
  • Draft key communications and leverage relationships to gain buy-in, resolve conflicts, and make recommendations on complex or ambiguous risks.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and support to fellow audit staff to facilitate team success and collaboration.
