About The Position

Role Overview The IT Solution Architect – Application & Integration is responsible for defining, governing, and evolving end-to-end technology solutions across the Trade Finance and Working Capital Solutions portfolio. This role owns the overall solution architecture for complex, multi-platform initiatives, ensuring alignment with business strategy, enterprise architecture standards, security, regulatory requirements, and operational readiness within a large, regulated banking environment. The IT Solution Architect operates across strategy, design, delivery, and change, serving as the primary architectural authority for application and integration solutions involving internal platforms, cloud services, and third-party/vendor technologies. The role requires deep technical credibility to guide engineers, challenge designs, and ensure high-quality delivery outcomes.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in application, integration, or platform technology roles, with significant architecture responsibility
  • 7+ years of experience within Banking or Financial Services technology environments
  • Proven experience designing large-scale, integrated enterprise solutions
  • Strong understanding of non-functional requirements (availability, resiliency, security, performance, recoverability)
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills
  • Strong analytical and systems-thinking mindset
  • Solution & Integration Architecture: Distributed systems, integration patterns, API-led architectures, event-driven designs
  • Integration Technologies: REST APIs, MQ, Web Services, SFTP, file-based integrations
  • Security & Architecture: OAuth/OIDC concepts, TLS, certificate management, IAM fundamentals, network segmentation
  • Cloud & Infrastructure: Azure architecture, hybrid deployments, virtualization fundamentals
  • Data & Formats: JSON, XML, relational database concepts
  • SDLC & Delivery Models: Agile/Scrum and Waterfall, architecture governance within delivery pipelines

Nice To Haves

  • Domain knowledge in Trade Finance & Working Capital products, including: o Core Trade (Letters of Credit, Standby LCs, Documentary Collections) o Supply Chain Finance (Payables, Receivables, Dynamic Discounting)
  • Experience with large Canadian bank environments and enterprise delivery models
  • Architecture and industry certifications: o TOGAF, SAFe Architect, ITIL, Cloud Architecture certifications
  • Prior experience guiding third-party vendors and complex regulatory-driven solutions
  • Ability to balance strategic architecture vision with pragmatic delivery constraints
  • Comfortable operating in highly regulated, mission-critical environments

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end solution architecture for assigned initiatives and platforms, covering applications, integrations, data flows, security, and non-functional requirements
  • Translate business capabilities and requirements into cohesive, scalable, and secure solution designs
  • Define integration patterns, application interactions, and architectural blueprints across internal systems and external/vendor platforms
  • Ensure solutions align with enterprise architecture principles, target state roadmaps, and strategic technology direction
  • Ensure architecture complies with enterprise standards, regulatory obligations, security controls, and internal risk policies
  • Lead architecture reviews, design sign-offs, and technical governance forums
  • Identify architectural risks, technical debt, and constraints; propose mitigation strategies and phased improvement plans
  • Partner with risk, security, and audit teams to address findings and ensure defensible architectural decisions
  • Partner closely with delivery teams, Senior Engineers, and vendors to guide implementation without direct execution
  • Provide architectural direction during solution build, integration, testing, and production readiness
  • Resolve cross-platform design issues and integration dependencies during delivery
  • Support major releases, platform onboarding, and transformational initiatives from inception through production
  • Contribute to platform and integration strategy, including modernization, cloud adoption, and vendor selections
  • Define architectural patterns for reuse, resiliency, scalability, and cost efficiency
  • Drive reduction of architectural complexity and long-term technical debt
  • Support lifecycle decisions including onboarding, major upgrades, and decommissioning
  • Act as a trusted technology advisor to business partners, product owners, and technology leaders
  • Communicate complex architectural concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborate effectively across architecture, engineering, operations, security, and vendor teams in a matrixed organization
