About The Position

The San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) is seeking an IS Senior Business Analyst for the Business Applications Team. This role reports to the Director of Student Information System/Project Management within the Department of Technology. The primary responsibility is to serve as a technical lead in developing digital tools and resources to improve the use of student systems by SFUSD staff, families, and students. The ideal candidate will lead the execution of product roadmaps through strong technical solutions that meet user needs, support ongoing operations, and contribute to the future direction of the district's technology. The position requires intermediate technical skills, a strong desire to learn new business practices and structures, and the ability to embrace large and complex projects with increasing responsibilities. Requirements

  • An associate degree in business administration, public administration, information systems, economics, finance, computer science or a closely related field from an accredited college or university OR its equivalent in terms of total course credits/units [i.e., at least sixty (60) semester or ninety (90) quarter credits/units with a minimum of twenty (20) semester or thirty (30) quarter credits/units in one of the fields above or a closely-related field].
  • Three (3) years in the information systems field, including system analysis, business process design, development and implementation of business application solutions or IT project management.
  • Knowledge of San Francisco’s public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD’s commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem solving skills.
  • Experience with implementing new systems and tools and/or systems consolidation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to translate technical requirements into user-friendly, accessible language.
  • The ability to build strong working relationships and support a positive work environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing help desk and providing excellent team customer service for an organization.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization.
  • A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals.
  • The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong computer skills including GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms).

Responsibilities

  • Support Student Information Systems processes including system upgrades, maintenance, enrollment, online applications, and integrations with other district systems.
  • Conduct system analysis and user requirements for enhancements for our users.
  • Oversee tickets in Zendesk, supporting Tier 2/3 assistance and analysis for end users, managers, and power users.
  • Draft and maintain system and application documentation; develop training guides and provide training for users on system functionality.
  • Collaborate with and provide support for central office departments such as Enrollment Center (EC), Research, Planning, & Assessment (RPA), Early Education Department (EED) to ensure their workflows in the system are successful; assess for functionality updates needed.
  • Help execute on a shared vision of a modern, robust, integrated, easy-to-use system providing clean, valuable, actionable data.
  • Analyze data and data processing needs to evaluate and improve processes software across platforms.
  • Develop reports and visualizations for users to analyze student needs; develop SSRS and Siren reports for central office departments using SQL.
  • Use data to improve processes and operations to continuously improve upon existing practices.
  • Conduct solution walkthroughs and document proposed system changes, interface with users to define system requirements and review impacts of changes.
  • Assist in preparing service requests with vendor(s) and prioritize based on effort and cost.
  • Develop or modify system designs and write detailed specifications.
  • Program, test, debug, and install new or modified software.
  • Communicate technical concepts to a general audience and other non-technical team members.
  • Provide data visualization and analysis of Student Information (SIS), enrollment, and other data issues and work to provide solutions.
  • Performs other related duties.
