About The Position

UC Irvine is a prestigious public university known for its academic achievement, research, and innovation. The Division of Finance and Administration (DFA) supports the university's mission by providing essential services. Facilities Management, a part of DFA, is responsible for the operation and maintenance of campus buildings, grounds, and utilities, covering approximately 150 buildings and 1,475 acres with a significant annual operating budget. Project Services is a construction department within Facilities.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and skill to operate commonly used grounds equipment and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability and skill to repair, install, and maintain irrigation systems.
  • Skill in operating trenchers, tractors, roto-tillers, and other commonly used power-driven grounds equipment.
  • Knowledge and ability to determine material requirements and estimate project costs.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to changing priorities.
  • Ability to follow through and carry out assignments.
  • Problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally, in writing, and electronically.
  • Ability to consistently perform assigned job duties.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • 1-3 years of experience in irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair, including hands-on experience with manual and automatic systems, electrical control systems, and Maxicom systems.
  • Required to hold a valid driver's license, have a driving record that is in accordance with local policies/procedures, and/or enroll in the California Employer Pull Notice Program.
  • Must be able to provide proof of work authorization.

  • Ability to develop short- and medium-range irrigation development and design plans.
  • Ability and skill to check own work and documentation for completion and accuracy.
  • Knowledge and ability to coordinate preventive maintenance programs.
  • Knowledge of irrigation systems, both manual and automatic.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct others in repairing, maintaining, and installing manual and automatic irrigated systems and related equipment, including hydraulic and electrically operated irrigation controllers.
  • Inspect systems, repair and adjust controllers, automatic and manual valves, and complex sprinkler heads.
  • Utilize knowledge of the MaxiCom central control system.
