Headquartered in Baton Rouge, LA, Turner Industries has over 20,000 employees across the United States. The company is seeking an Ironworker for a position in the Cameron, LA area. The Ironworker works as a member of a crew to raise, place, and unite girders, columns, and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks. This is a non-exempt role that reports to the Foreman, with assigned duties according to specific procedures and frequent checking of work.
Requirements
- High school or equivalent
- One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
- Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them
- Rigging skills including wire rope slings
- Written pre-employment qualification test
- Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
- Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
- Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
- Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace

Responsibilities
- Works as a member of a crew to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks.
- Off loads deliveries of structural material from the fabricator.
- Sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members.
- Fastens steel members to cable of hoist.
- Signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member.
- Guides member or rides on member in order to guide it into position.
- Pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device.
- Forces members into final position.
- Aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member.
- Verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members.
- Bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted.
- Cuts steel members to make alterations.
