About The Position

The Iron Worker Foreman is responsible for supervising and coordinating all ironworker activities on marine construction projects, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality structural steel installation. This role leads a crew of iron workers, manages daily workflow, enforces compliance with safety standards, and collaborates with project leadership to meet schedule and performance goals.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
  • 5+ years of iron worker experience with at least 2 years in a supervisory/foreman role.
  • Demonstrated leadership and crew management skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and rigging plans.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel erection, welding processes, and rigging signals.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in heavy industrial, marine construction, shipyard, or offshore environments preferred.
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification (or equivalent) preferred.
  • marine/harbor entry clearance a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise iron worker crews in all phases of structural and miscellaneous steel installation.
  • Plan work assignments, sequence tasks, and allocate manpower to optimize productivity.
  • Mentor and train workers on best practices, welding procedures, rigging, and fabrication techniques.
  • Enforce company policies, project requirements, and quality standards.
  • Serve as a safety leader on site; conduct safety briefings and ensure compliance with OSHA, USCG, and client safety standards.
  • Identify hazards, enforce protective measures, and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Ensure all crew members have appropriate PPE and certifications (e.g., confined space, fall protection, welding).
  • Read and interpret drawings, blueprints, and rigging plans.
  • Coordinate lifting operations, rigging, crane placement, and temporary supports.
  • Work with superintendents, engineers, and QC inspectors to solve onsite issues.
  • Monitor crew performance, workflow, and material staging to support schedule milestones.
  • Inspect completed work for compliance with specifications and tolerances.
  • Report non-conformances and implement corrective action in coordination with QC and project management.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation, timesheets, and reports.
  • Provide daily reports to project leadership on progress, manpower, issues, and safety.
  • Communicate clearly with subcontractors, suppliers, and inspection teams.
