About The Position

Samsung Semiconductor Inc. is looking for an IP Manager with a strong foundation in materials science, electrical engineering, or computer science, plus solid patent‑law experience. In this role you will: Location: Daily onsite presence at our San Jose headquarters in alignment with our Work policy Reports to: Director IP Legal Management

Requirements

  • B.S. in Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Registered patent agent or attorney (U.S. or equivalent).
  • ≥ 5 years in industry with hands‑on patent drafting and prosecution as Attorney or 8 years in industry with hands‑on patent drafting and prosecution as a registered Patent agent
  • Excellent spoken and written English; ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Analytical ability-Strong quantitative skills to understand electrical, physics, materials, and software inventions.
  • Collaboration mindset - Proven ability to work with diverse engineering teams and external counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Lead patent prosecution – review invention disclosures, draft patents, manage office actions, and guide inventors and external counsel.
  • Oversee outside counsel – assess work quality, timeliness, responsiveness, and cost; ensure alignment with Samsung’s standards.
  • Strategically manage the IP portfolio – analyze patents, make lifecycle decisions, and balance value maximization with cost control.
  • Harvest inventions – understand lab activities, organize technical discussions, and document all newly discovered IP.
  • Facilitate collaboration – host invention‑harvest meetings, chair patent‑review committees, and grade invention quality with cross‑functional teams.
