About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to work for one of the top law firms in the U.S.! Davis Wright Tremaine LLP is looking for an IP Paralegal Manager to join our team in our Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York or Washington D.C. offices. This position offers the flexibility to be fully remote while working within reasonable commuting distance from any of our offices. The primary function of this position is to provide daily supervision and support to patent and trademark paralegals firmwide, to ensure they are meeting the needs and goals of the firm by producing timely, high quality work product and client service. This position also ensures high utilization by managing and rebalancing caseloads, assesses performance, establishes goal-setting objectives, advises on policies and procedures, and works with the Associate Director of IP Operations on projects and initiatives. Requirements

8+ years’ experience in a law firm or in house legal department environment is required
Experience leading in a supervisory/management role supervising staff is required
Subject matter expertise in rules and procedures in multiple areas of intellectual property (e.g., patent, trademark, and copyright) is required
Ability to supervise a team of 20+ paralegals; creating a positive working environment for a team of employees, investing in their successes and being a leader by example
General management and leadership skills, including effective communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational and problem-solving skills, and the ability to interact effectively with persons at all levels of the organization
Outstanding customer service skills, professional demeanor, discretion and flexibility; set high goals or standards of performance for self and direct reports rather than having standards imposed by others
Ability to manage stressful situations in a calm, professional and positive manner required; anticipating potential conflicts and having the ability to reach satisfactory resolution
High degree of sensitivity for confidential matters
Demonstrated ability to use MS Office products required specifically Excel and Word

Nice To Haves

Bachelor of Arts degree preferred
Paralegal certification preferred

Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and manage a team of IP paralegals
Manage and rebalance paralegal caseloads as needed based on skill, capacity, and urgency, to ensure quality work and high utilization of timekeepers
Promote continuing education and skills advancement; provide opportunities for training
Ensure compliance with ethical, procedural, and firm standards
Monitor and ensure that patent and trademark paralegal work product is timely, accurate and meets the needs of attorneys and clients
Efficiently manage complex and challenging workflows and cross office coverage; track overtime usage in support of budget management; promote positive change and take a proactive approach to problem solving
Provide day to day supervision, manage time and attendance, payroll approvals, and expense reimbursements for patent and trademark paralegals; conduct semi-annual check-ins with goal-setting
Provide employee relations support in collaboration with IP Leadership and the Human Resources team
Manage recruiting, hiring, and onboarding of patent and trademark paralegals
