Regular in-office presence is required for day-to-day operations, as well as for team meetings, training opportunities, and relationship building. This role reports to the IP Prosecution Manager. This is a non-JD position designed to give you a behind-the-scenes look at IP law and life at a leading law firm. You'll gain hands-on experience with patent and/or trademark processes, work on cutting-edge technologies, and collaborate with experienced IP attorneys and professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Computer proficiency in Windows-based software and Microsoft Office Suite applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Understanding of AI capabilities, limitations, and responsible use in a professional environment.
  • Familiarity with, or willingness to learn, firm-approved AI tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar platforms) to support daily workflow and/or improve work quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using electronic document management systems (e.g., iManage or Filesite) is a plus.
  • Exceptional computer skills with the ability to learn new software applications quickly.

Responsibilities

  • Manages incoming US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) and foreign Patent Office correspondence.
  • Works with attorneys to conduct life science based searches of patent and trademark databases.
  • Prepares and sends letters reporting US PTO and foreign correspondence to clients.
  • Prepares drawings for life science patent applications.
  • Works on Sequence Listings for patent applications that include polynucleotide and amino acid sequences.
  • Work with attorneys to conduct life science based searches of patent and trademark databases.
  • Analyzes scientific literature in connection with special projects.
  • Maintains and organizes client files and electronic databases.
  • Works on Information Disclosure Statements.
  • Performs administrative tasks for IP department.
  • Assists with other department activities as needed, and performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
