About The Position

The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for an Athletics Equipment Room Intern. This is a full-time, temporary position for one year, with the possibility of extension to two years based on performance and departmental needs. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference, managing 22 varsity sports programs. The department operates with a philosophy of “Win. Graduate. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships.
  • Working knowledge of and ability to effectively use office support software (word processing, email, presentation software, and spreadsheets).
  • Ability to operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, which may include evening, weekend, and holiday hours.
  • A valid driving license and the ability to meet and maintain University of Iowa Driving Policy standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge and understanding of the professionalism and intensity necessary to successfully contribute to a Division I athletics program.
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of the maintenance and inventory of apparel and equipment.
  • Experience working in an athletics equipment room, including experience as a student manager.
  • Experience supervising or leading student employees.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the daily operations of the Jacobson Athletic Building and Carver‑Hawkeye Arena Equipment Operations department, providing support for multiple Olympic sports and men’s and women’s basketball.
  • Assist with ordering athletic equipment and apparel.
  • Prepare locker rooms for home competitions.
  • Ensure timely completion of gameday and practice laundry while helping maintain laundry equipment.
  • Maintain athletic equipment.
  • Receive and process equipment and apparel shipments.
  • Support the supervision and scheduling of student workers.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.
