About The Position

VERSANT is seeking an iOS Engineering Manager for CNBC to lead architecture, design, and development efforts for high-scale, video-rich iOS applications. This role involves ensuring the team delivers performant, secure, and maintainable Swift-based code, overseeing deep integrations with video playback and personalization engines, and driving consistency across mobile platforms. The manager will also collaborate with AI/ML and backend teams to embed personalized experiences. In addition to technical leadership, the role includes managing, coaching, and growing a team of iOS engineers, fostering ownership and continuous improvement. Responsibilities also encompass leading technical reviews, promoting engineering excellence through automated testing, CI/CD, and observability, and hiring/onboarding new engineers. The position requires cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, UX Research, QA, Data, and Platform teams to deliver user-first features and translate business objectives into scalable technical solutions. Operational excellence is key, with ownership of KPIs such as app performance, crash-free sessions, and user engagement. The role involves implementing monitoring and error handling practices, championing fast iteration without compromising quality, and actively participating in incident triage for mobile issues.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of iOS development experience, with 2+ years managing or leading high-performing engineering teams
  • Expert-level knowledge of Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit, and AVFoundation
  • Proven experience building and maintaining iOS applications at scale, especially for video and content-driven platforms
  • Strong understanding of mobile architecture, design patterns, and secure data handling
  • Deep experience with video streaming technologies, including HLS, DASH, and custom playback frameworks
  • Familiarity with GraphQL or REST APIs, mobile analytics, feature flags, and experimentation frameworks
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD tools like Bitrise, Fastlane, and GitHub Actions
  • Commitment to quality and performance through test automation, accessibility, and usability
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a user- and product-oriented mindset

  • Experience building apps for high-traffic media or streaming brands
  • Knowledge of privacy regulations and mobile compliance standards (GDPR, CCPA)

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture, design, and development efforts for high-scale, video-rich iOS applications
  • Ensure the team delivers performant, secure, and maintainable Swift-based code leveraging frameworks like SwiftUI, UIKit, Combine
  • Oversee deep integrations with video playback (HLS, DASH), personalization engines, and real-time APIs
  • Drive consistency, scalability, and shared services across mobile platforms
  • Collaborate with AI/ML and backend teams to embed personalized experiences within the iOS app
  • Manage, coach, and grow a team of iOS engineers—fostering ownership, creativity, and continuous improvement
  • Lead technical reviews and support knowledge sharing through documentation and internal talks
  • Promote a high bar for engineering excellence including automated testing, CI/CD, and observability
  • Hire and onboard new engineers, helping them succeed in a fast-paced media environment
  • Work closely with Product, Design, UX Research, QA, Data, and Platform teams to shape and deliver user-first features
  • Partner with the Design team to ensure platform consistency, brand alignment, and accessibility standards are upheld
  • Translate business objectives into reliable technical solutions that scale across audiences and platforms
  • Own KPIs such as app performance, crash-free sessions, release cadence, and user engagement
  • Implement monitoring, crash reporting, and proactive error handling practices
  • Champion fast iteration without compromising quality—leading a high-trust team that delivers frequently
  • Actively participate in incident triage and escalation for mobile issues in production
