About The Position

This is a freelance contract role for an iOS Developer joining the Software team to design, build, and evolve native iOS apps used by players and coaches. The role owns features end-to-end, from Bluetooth communication with wearable GPS devices and data synchronization to polished user-facing experiences built with Swift and SwiftUI. It also offers scope to develop AI-powered features on-device and through the company’s AWS generative AI stack. The developer works closely with Product Owners, designers, Android engineers, and backend engineers to deliver reliable, useful experiences across platforms. The role includes designing for offline use, maintaining the iOS release pipeline, writing tests, and supporting app reliability and performance in an Agile environment.

Requirements

  • Experience building and shipping native iOS apps in Swift.
  • Comfort with SwiftUI, Swift Concurrency (async/await), and modern app architecture.
  • Good understanding of the iOS platform, including app lifecycle, background execution, permissions, privacy requirements, and App Store review guidelines.
  • Comfort consuming REST APIs and working alongside backend engineers.
  • Experience using AI tools in a development workflow and curiosity about applying AI within a product.
  • Active interest in learning about AI, including trying models and tools, following releases, experimenting, and sharing findings with the team.
  • Enthusiasm for learning and taking ownership while working collaboratively.
  • Creative problem-solving skills and ability to think beyond a specification.
  • Clear communication and collaboration across product, design, and engineering.
  • Ability to reason through problems and articulate thinking clearly.
  • Ability to investigate technical or support issues, distinguish technical issues from user error, and communicate findings.
  • Genuine interest in sport and understanding of players and coaches as users.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to AWS services such as S3, serverless, or Bedrock.
  • Familiarity with Android or Kotlin.
  • Personal or side projects, an App Store app, open-source contributions, or other examples of learning and building outside work.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and support native iOS applications using Swift, SwiftUI, and UIKit where appropriate.
  • Build and integrate AI-powered features using AWS Bedrock services and explore on-device capabilities such as Core ML and Apple’s Foundation Models framework.
  • Integrate with serverless backend APIs and design offline-first functionality, including caching and synchronization.
  • Own and improve the release pipeline, including CI/CD, automated builds, TestFlight, and App Store submissions.
  • Write unit and UI tests using XCTest or Swift Testing and take responsibility for app reliability, performance, and battery impact.
  • Collaborate with Product Owners, designers, and the Android team to deliver features that provide insight to players and coaches across platforms.
  • Bring creative, outside-the-box thinking to problems.
  • Participate in Agile planning, reviews, and continuous delivery.
  • Work with external teams such as Support and Product to investigate and resolve issues, including debugging from limited information and clearly communicating findings.

Benefits

  • Product-focused role building AI-powered mobile apps used by players at scale.
  • Ownership of meaningful features from concept through delivery.
  • Hands-on experience with connected wearable hardware, recent Apple frameworks, and AWS AI services.
  • A culture that values curiosity, autonomy, learning, and a genuine love of sport.
  • The opportunity to see your work in players’ pockets every day.
