About The Position

The Investment Operations Intern assists the Investment Operations Department with preparing annual audit documentation and supporting schedules. The work includes reviewing audited financial statements for private investments, compiling pertinent information, reconciling activity to subsidiary ledgers, and completing fiscal year-to-date reconciliations of publicly traded portfolio activity.

The intern also helps compile investment data for the annual comprehensive financial report and processes capital calls and distributions for private equity and real estate investments. The position pays $20.00 per hour and is temporary. NYSTRS currently has a hybrid work schedule, which may change. Sponsorship is not available; applicants must have unrestricted work authorization.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's or master's degree program.
• Have at least one semester remaining after the internship to complete all degree requirements.
• Hold unrestricted work authorization; sponsorship is not available.

Responsibilities

• Review audited financial statements for private investments, compare and reconcile selected data points to subsidiary ledgers, and follow up on discrepancies.
• Prepare fiscal year-to-date reconciliations for publicly traded asset classes in aggregation, including trade activity, income collection, bond amortization, and cash balances.
• Assist with compiling investment data for the annual comprehensive financial report.
• Assist in processing capital call and distribution activity for private equity and real estate investments.
• Assist with processing private asset investment capital calls and distributions.
