About The Position

The Energy Acquisitions and Divestitures (A&D) Co-op Analyst / Data Scientist program is designed for candidates in their third and fourth years of an undergraduate engineering or computer science program. Co-op Analysts / Data Scientists will participate in a one-week training and orientation program and will then work within the Energy A&D Advisory group during the program. In addition to this experience, the program includes the opportunity to network across various business groups, learn about the culture of BMO Capital Markets, participate in training and learning seminars, and obtain career guidance from dedicated mentors. This position is located in Calgary, Alberta and ideally suited to talented, highly motivated individuals who seek to build a solid, comprehensive foundation in the basic skills of energy investment banking utilizing a technical background.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program studying engineering or computer science, graduating in December 2027 and onwards
  • Proven track record of excellent academic standing, extra curricular participation and demonstrated interest in finance
  • Excellent analytical skills that can be utilized for data analysis and interpretation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills used within a demanding team environment.
  • Ability to attentively review, assess and provide detailed information daily on multiple projects in an organized manner.
  • Excellent capacity to independently function as part of a team through self-motivation.
  • Strong work ethic
  • A high level of integrity
  • Advanced experience with Microsoft Excel and Power Point

Nice To Haves

  • Preference will be given to those students in their third or fourth years of study with previous co-op experience.
  • Familiarity with the Energy industry and industry specific software including Val Nav, Mosiac, Enersight, Aries, geoSCOUT, Enverus Prism, and Accumap considered an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in the preparation and execution of technical evaluations, economic performance analysis, reservoir and asset descriptions, upside identification and other complex data analysis workflows.
  • Assist in generating and presenting pitch materials, management presentations, and content summarizing broader Energy industry trends.
  • Integrate information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis and/or streamlined reporting using SQL, Python, R, Spotfire, or Excel VBA
  • Develop analysis and project execution strategies and make recommendations based on an understanding of business fundamentals and stakeholder needs.
  • Drive client solutions through team collaboration, technical knowledge, and economic analysis.
  • Support the execution of strategic initiatives in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Consider risk, internal controls, and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adhere to policies and procedures.
