About The Position

With over 34,000 registrants, the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (“the College”) is the regulatory body for social workers and social service workers in Ontario. Our mandate is to serve and protect the public interest through self-regulation of the professions. We are seeking an Investigator to join the Professional Conduct team. This role is an existing vacancy and requires an exceptionally organized professional with strong information gathering, fact finding, interviewing and report writing skills. The incumbent will manage and support the work of the College as it relates to the College’s statutory responsibilities in the areas of complaints, reports, discipline and fitness to practise by gathering, analyzing, and documenting evidence related to concerns raised about registrant conduct.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in health administration, public administration, law, alternative dispute resolution or in a related field required.
• Minimum of three years of professional experience in investigations, risk management, professional regulation or dispute resolution within a regulatory framework or administrative/tribunal process.
• Demonstrated experience of administrative law principles such as procedural fairness, transparency and confidentiality, as well as an understanding of legal process and professional regulation.
• Demonstrated experience with case management, information management systems or equivalent.
• Strong investigative, research and information gathering skills.
• Exceptional communication skills to engage appropriately with key individuals or groups, and to communicate complex information.
• Proven experience to manage and prioritize multiple cases and projects in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment; responding to changing and/or conflicting timelines or urgent matters as they arise.
• Excellent analytical, attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Good judgement, diplomacy and experience with presenting information in a factual and objective manner.
• Technological curiosity and savvy with proven expertise and hands-on experience in effectively utilizing the Microsoft 365 suite.

Nice To Haves

• Further education in law, health care or social work an asset.
• Experience in early resolution, fraud and/or sexual abuse investigations an asset.

Responsibilities

• Conduct investigations of complaints/reports from intake to consideration or hearing by the College’s statutory committees.
• Willing and able to conduct visits to individuals or related parties under investigation when required.
• Liaise with key individuals and groups including College registrants, members of the public, legal counsel and Committee members.
• Research issues related to specific cases/projects.
• Analyze and interpret information based on practical requirements and context.
• Input relevant data into the College’s Customer Relationship Management system (CRM).
• Prepare reports and present matters to the Complaints Committee and Executive Committee.
• Draft and negotiate undertakings as directed by the Committee, including information to be posted on the public register.
• Manage sensitive and complex issues in an objective and reasoned manner and achieve results within established timelines and performance standards.
