About The Position

WSOC TV Charlotte is looking for an Investigative Producer to research, write and produce investigative content on all platforms for WSOC/CMG Charlotte. This role actively supports the Action 9 brand by investigating tips, responding to emails, letters and phone calls, identifying possible interviews, conducting interviews and writing news stories. The producer will contribute investigative ideas and elements to daily newsgathering, develop and maintain a strong network of contacts, and lead investigations within CMG Charlotte and across Cox Media Group. The position requires knowledge of courts, police records and government operations, collaboration with legal counsel, and management of public records requests and investigative shoots. A commitment to high standards of accuracy, fairness, and journalistic ethics is essential.

Requirements

• Strong editorial judgment
• Knowledge of undercover investigative techniques as well as laws regarding libel, privacy rights, audio/video recording and property rights
• Strong research and data analysis skills
• Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications or related field
• Experience in television news, preferably in investigative and/or consumer reporting
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
• Ability to travel if needed
• Comfortable in a fast-paced newsroom
• Ability to meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and credibility
• Understanding of social media
• This position requires in-person work at CMG Charlotte

• Maintain high standards of accuracy, fairness and other journalistic ethics
