About The Position

The Investigations Consultant will lead investigations of reports alleging child maltreatment and violations of child care requirements in child care facilities. They work collaboratively with law enforcement and medical personnel when conducting these investigations. They make decisions regarding immediate protection plans to ensure children are safe. Additional responsibilities include conducting interviews with children and families, reporting information to law enforcement, etc. The Investigation Consultant position will serve the following geographical area: Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Iredell, Rowan, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties. Applicant must reside in NC and within or contiguous to the assigned territories of Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Iredell, Rowan, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a discipline relative to the program from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of related experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a discipline relative to the program area from an appropriately accredited institution and four years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must reside in NC and within or contiguous to the assigned territories of Alexander, Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Burke, Caldwell, Iredell, Rowan, Surry, Watauga, Wilkes, and Yadkin Counties.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in management of a child care program or related setting involving the coordination, evaluation, or administration of a comprehensive program of children services and/or investigating complaints alleging child abuse/neglect/maltreatment
  • Working knowledge of child development including physical, intellectual, social and emotional stages
  • Experience in interpreting laws and rules as they pertain to child care programs and requirements or child abuse/neglect/maltreatment

Responsibilities

  • Make recommendations to management regarding determinations of child maltreatment
  • Monitor child care facilities for compliance with the laws and regulations applicable to their child care arrangements
  • Develop thorough case documentation for each investigation
  • Collaborate with other Child Development and Early Education staff and partnering agencies as collaboration is critical to successful investigations
  • Complete timely investigations as they are imperative to ensure children are in safe and healthy environments
  • Recommend administrative actions at the conclusion of investigations and work closely with child care facilities to assist with corrective measures including technical assistance and training to prevent serious incidents in child care and improve the quality of care for all children
