About The Position

While working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion, the Inventory Control Technician I is responsible for receiving, stocking, ordering, and distributing equipment, materials, and supplies within the Maintenance Department. This includes organizing and keeping the storage facilities neat and clean to provide a safe and clean working environment. As Essential Personnel, you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies, including clean-up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned, such as shoveling, salting, etc. Maintenance technicians are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, and CFAW, summer camps, amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.

Requirements

  • High school degree or GED
  • 1+ years of related experience in record keeping that includes some inventory control using a computerized inventory control system or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Well-developed communications skills
  • Must possess a current and valid driver’s license and reputable driving record
  • State Driver’s license and insurable with company’s agent
  • Must be able to understand and follow instructions, and work under limited supervision
  • Must be able to work well with the public and co-workers and present a positive attitude
  • Exceptional self-management

  • Proof of a valid Virginia driver’s license, an acceptable DMV record, and liability insurance is required.

  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and excellent computer skills are desired.

Responsibilities

  • Reports to work at the required time, follows and performs duties as assigned by the Supervisor and Upper management.
  • Follows daily and weekly work assignments.
  • Responsible for entering data in a computerized inventory system, such as receiving, storing, and distributing supplies and materials, purging items, and maintaining accurate inventory balances, as well as taking inventory of supplies and materials.
  • Performs tasks of an Inventory Control Technician I and related work in the operation and maintenance of a storage room.
  • Keeps Supervisor abreast of stock on hand and shortages.
  • Receives delivered items and notifies other departments of items received for their area.
  • Organizes inventory and periodically checking remain stock.
  • Labels items in storage facility and assists other techs in locating received items or items in storage.
  • Responsible for verifying the count of the incoming material with invoices and purchase orders, as well as making sure that all inventory is accurate and properly placed.
  • Fulfill supply and material requests for Field Personnel.
  • Delivers supplies as needed.
  • Processes delivery tickets.
  • Maintains database and keeps records current.
  • Coordinates/schedules pickups and deliveries.
  • Assists customers and other team members.
  • Keeps storage facilities clean and removes all necessary waste and garbage in proper containers to maintain a safe and quality work environment.
  • Delivers materials to other areas within FMD.
  • Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or provide simple but continuous adjustment on equipment, machinery, and tools such as a computer, vehicle, and forklift, and/or materials used in performing essential functions.
  • Requires the ability to utilize a variety of reference data information such as billings, letters, purchase orders, operating instructions, schedules, and records.
  • Requires the ability to perform basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
  • Ensures that proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is available and understands how and when to use it.
  • Must use proper personal protective equipment (PPE) as required while performing the job duties and responsibilities of an Inventory Control Tech I. This includes but is not limited to steel toe boots, harness, hard hat, gloves, eye protection gear, etc.
  • Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Remains abreast of existing and emerging technologies, processes, products, services and leading industry performance benchmarks.
