About The Position

The Inventory Accountant is responsible for the administration, control, compliance, and accountability of Government Property in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), contractual requirements, and company policies. This role ensures proper stewardship of Government-owned, Government-furnished, and contractor-acquired property throughout its lifecycle within an aerospace and defense contracting environment. In addition, this person will ensure proper accounting and records of company owned inventory and capital assets. The position supports program operations, audits, contract execution, and compliance initiatives while coordinating across supply chain, contracts, engineering, manufacturing, quality, finance, and government customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum of 2–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in inventory, manufacturing, or cost accounting
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and inventory reconciliation processes
  • Experience with ERP systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis functions
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a US Citizen

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain a compliant Government Property Management System in accordance with: FAR Part 45, FAR 52.245-1 Government Property, DFARS 252.245 series, Agency-specific and Customer requirements (DCMA, DOD, NASA, etc.).
  • Manage Government-Furnished Property (GFP), Contractor-Acquired Property (CAP), and sensitive/classified equipment.
  • Ensure accurate identification, tracking, tagging, utilization, movement, storage, maintenance, and disposition of government assets.
  • Maintain complete asset lifecycle records from acquisition through final disposition.
  • Prepare for and support DCMA Property Management System Analyses (PMSA), CPSRs, DCAA audits, and customer reviews.
  • Conduct internal self-assessments and compliance reviews to ensure adherence to FAR/DFARS requirements.
  • Develop corrective action plans and implement process improvements for audit findings.
  • Maintain documentation and records supporting contractual and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain property records.
  • Reconcile inventories and investigate discrepancies, loss, damage, or destruction (LDD) incidents.
  • Prepare required reports including: Property closeout documentation, DD Forms and government reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate physical inventories and cyclical audits.
  • Review government contracts and subcontracts for property clauses and compliance obligations.
  • Collaborate with Contracts and Program Management to ensure proper property flow-down requirements to subcontractors.
  • Support proposal development related to property management plans and estimating.
  • Advise program teams on property requirements and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and work instructions for Government Property Management.
  • Recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate inventory accounting records and perform routine reconciliations of inventory-related general ledger accounts.
  • Analyze inventory transactions including receipts, issues, transfers, adjustments, and cycle count results.
  • Support month-end and year-end closing activities related to inventory and cost accounting.
  • Assist in maintaining standard costs, overhead allocations, and inventory valuation processes.
  • Reconcile perpetual inventory records to physical inventory counts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Production, and Warehouse personnel to resolve inventory variances.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
  • Support audits, including external financial audits and government compliance reviews.
  • Assist with inventory reserve analysis including excess, obsolete, and slow-moving inventory.
  • Generate and analyze inventory reports to support operational and financial decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, company procedures, and applicable government contracting regulations.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance inventory accuracy and financial reporting efficiency.
  • Assist with other Accounting Functions as needed.
