The Invasive Cardiac Tech - EP operates all monitoring, recording, and related equipment used during procedures. They collect and prepare pertinent data for physician/staff use, and support the physician and staff during procedures. This role involves monitoring patient electrocardiograms for cardiac dysrhythmias, operating the defibrillator, and performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation when required, providing assistance in emergency situations. The technician also assists in pre and post-procedure activities related to equipment and patient care, positions patients, and selects exposure factors for all radiographic procedures performed in the department. They identify cardiovascular and peripheral vascular anatomy for documentation, perform initial troubleshooting on equipment, and arrange maintenance as necessary. Calibration, cleaning, and quality assurance measures on equipment are also part of the responsibilities. The role includes preparing, delivering, and picking up reusable items for re-sterilization, as well as preparing and operating imaging, angiographic, interventional, and storage systems. The technician will scrub to assist the physician with diagnostic, interventional, and surgical procedures, demonstrating knowledge of equipment and options, and must be able to work with medical staff and fellows. Additionally, they serve as a technical resource, role model, and/or preceptor for students and staff, develop, train, and administer competencies to staff, and facilitate clinical problem-solving. Collaboration with other departments for education on patient management post-procedure and other cardiology department processes is also expected. The position requires the ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, understanding the principles of growth and development over the life span and assessing data reflective of patient status to meet age-specific needs.
