About The Position

We are currently seeking an Inuit Employment Coordinator to join our People and Community team in Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This is a permanent position, working a Monday to Friday schedule. Travel to the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site and Inuit communities within Labrador will be required as part of this role. As an Inuit Employment Coordinator, you will play an integral part in supporting the hiring and training preferences for Nunatsiavut Beneficiaries. The primary objective of the role is to ensure that qualified Inuit candidates are given first consideration for all employment and training opportunities at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site as it relates to the Impacts and Benefits Agreement (IBA) with the Nunatsiavut Government.

Requirements

  • Must be a Nunatsiavut Beneficiary.
  • University related to community studies, business management, or a related field of study.
  • 3 years’ experience in a related position, preferably within community studies.
  • Must have a good working relationship with the Inuit community.
  • Must be fluent in English.
  • High degree of sensitivity to cultural diversity in the workforce.
  • Committed to the employment and educational development of Nunatsiavut Government Beneficiaries.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and unsupervised as required.
  • Strong communication and report writing skills.
  • Good computer skills are required (Word, Excel and Power Point).
  • Ability to work in remote sites, travel to remote communities, and work extended hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an industrial workplace is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in a fly in/fly out environment is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the Impacts and Benefits Agreement and process would be an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Working a Monday to Friday Schedule, you will be required to work a minimum of one week per month on site in Voisey’s Bay with additional travel to the Inuit communities within Labrador as required.
  • Collaborate with recruitment efforts to hire Nunatsiavut Beneficiaries for job openings and training opportunities at the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site.
  • Collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team and site Contractors in identifying qualified Inuit employees.
  • Attend all Inuit candidate’s interviews to ensure comfort, accuracy and consistency in the recruitment and selection process.
  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating events onsite in Voisey’s Bay and Inuit communities.
  • Network with Nunatsiavut Government in the Inuit communities to source interested candidates.
  • Identify barriers for Inuit employees and use that information to maintain and improve the Inuit Employee retention rate.
  • Organize and attend Inuit Advisory Committee meetings whose functions include providing advice directly to Vale management at the Mine Site about the establishment of workplaces, work conditions, and a working and living environment that respects, values and supports Inuit culture.
  • Provide information to Nunatsiavut Government about priorities and policies regarding the implementation of training, employment, and workplace conditions section of the Inuit IBA.
  • Travel to Inuit communities to visit schools, hold public meetings regarding work, environmental issues, winter shipping, and any other topics the community would like to discuss regarding the Voisey’s Bay Mine Site.
