About The Position

Intramural Sports Officials officiate and keep score for Intramural contests, including flag football, volleyball, outdoor soccer, basketball, indoor soccer, and softball. The position also supports the daily operations of the Rock Wall, including participant safety, equipment maintenance, and maintaining climber records. Officials are expected to help create a fun climbing experience and enforce program-area rules and policies. This student position is with Washburn University's Student Recreation & Wellness Center. The university is a teaching-focused, student-centered public institution in Topeka, serving just over 7,000 students. Requirements

Must be a Washburn University student who is currently enrolled or pre-registered in classes and holds at least part-time student status.
Must have and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 during employment with the Student Recreation & Wellness Center.
Attend all meetings, in-services, and trainings unless absent for an academic or military purpose.
Must not work more than 20 hours per week while classes are in session.
Hourly background check required.

Nice To Haves

Ability to work in two-hour time blocks between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Knowledge of and experience officiating and playing various sports.
Effective customer service experience.
Prior climbing experience.

Responsibilities

Attend all required clinics and training meetings.
Complete and pass all required rules and policies tests with a score of 100%.
Assist the Intramural Supervisor with setting up and taking down required equipment.
Track Intramural equipment issued for the designated game area.
Complete required reports, including injury, accident, and sportsmanship reports, and provide sportsmanship ratings for each officiated contest.
While officiating, hustle, use proper officiating mechanics, take control of the game and participants, and treat each game as a distinct event.
While scorekeeping, mark and verify the paper score sheet before posting scores to the scoreboard, and ensure that present team members check in and sign both the score sheet and roster sheet.
Regularly review Intramural policies and individual event rules.
Assist with Rock Wall instruction and operations.
Check out and maintain Rock Wall equipment.
Enforce program-area rules and policies.
Maintain an understanding of proper emergency procedures.
Help create a fun climbing experience for participants.
Perform other duties as assigned.
