About The Position

Intramural Sports Officials officiate and keep score for Intramural contests, including flag football, volleyball, outdoor soccer, basketball, indoor soccer, and softball. The position also supports daily operations of the Rock Wall facilities, helping ensure participant safety, maintain equipment, and keep records of climbers. The role requires attending trainings and clinics, enforcing program rules, and contributing to a fun climbing experience.

Requirements

Must be a Washburn University student currently enrolled or pre-registered in classes and hold at least part-time student status.
Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and maintain it throughout employment with the SRWC.
Attend all meetings, in-services, and trainings unless the absence is for an academic or military purpose.
Must not work more than 20 hours per week while classes are in session.

Nice To Haves

Ability to work in two-hour time blocks between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Knowledge and experience officiating and playing various sports.
Effective customer service experience.
Prior climbing experience.

Responsibilities

Attend all required clinics and training meetings.
Complete and pass all necessary rules and policies tests with 100%.
Assist the Intramural Supervisor with setting up and tearing down necessary equipment.
Track all Intramural-issued equipment for the designated game area.
Complete required reports, including injury, accident, and sportsmanship reports, and submit sportsmanship ratings for each officiated contest.
While officiating, hustle, use proper officiating mechanics, take control of the game and participants, and treat each game as a singular event.
While scorekeeping, mark and verify the paper score sheet before posting scores to the scoreboard, and ensure present team members check in and sign both the score sheet and roster sheet.
Regularly review Intramural Policies and individual event rules.
Assist with Rock Wall instruction and operations.
Provide Rock Wall equipment checkout and maintenance.
Enforce program area rules and policies.
Maintain an understanding of proper emergency procedures.
Create a fun climbing experience for participants.
Perform other duties as assigned.
