Interventional Radiology Technologist

Oregon Health & Science University•Portland, OR
•Onsite

About The Position

This position is an integral member of the Department of Interventional Radiology team, collaborating with physicians and nurses to provide high-quality care. The technologist provides direct patient care using medical imaging to support diagnosis and treatment, assists with radiographic procedures involving vascular and non-vascular structures, recognizes patient conditions relevant to completing procedures, and ensures radiation safety for patients and team members. Daily assignments vary and may include procedures ranging from central line placements to embolizations and stroke interventions. The patient population ranges from neonates to geriatrics. Clinical assessments, including NIHSS, are deferred to registered nurses and privileged staff; NIHSS education is not required because of this deferral and the Oregon RT(R) scope of practice. The position rotates between the South Waterfront/CHH2 location and the 11A unit of the main OHSU Hospital building, with call responsibilities. The technologist operates complex imaging equipment, prepares patients and sterile supplies, may scrub in and assist physicians during procedures, and provides patient care in collaboration with other staff. The role also includes equipment maintenance and troubleshooting, cross-training to another service area, and working across six procedure labs and inpatient, day-patient, and outpatient workflows. Work location may change based on procedure volumes and staffing needs. While on call, the employee must be able to arrive at the hospital within 30 minutes of an emergency page.
