About The Position

This position provides an educational program for students as defined in the student's Individualized Education Program (I.E.P.). The Intervention Specialist will participate as a collaborative team member in intervention planning, multifactored evaluations, and reevaluations for students within the required timelines. This role coordinates the development and continuous monitoring of Individual Educational Plans for students with disabilities to ensure appropriate services and supplemental aides and supports are provided in the least restrictive environment within required timelines consistent with The Ohio Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities. The Intervention Specialist will implement educational interventions and specially designed instruction adapting, as appropriate, the content, methodology, or delivery of instruction to address the unique needs of the student. Additionally, this role designs and implements meaningful parent involvement activities that include parents as equal partners. Other duties may be assigned by the Principal/Manager or his/her designee.

Requirements

• Valid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate/License to teach children with disabilities
• Previous experience working in public educational setting desired.
• Will work cooperatively with regular classroom teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students, assisting in classroom intervention strategies, modifying general education curricula as necessary, and assisting the student with regular class assignments.
• Will communicate regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of students.
• Will participate in professional growth activities through staff development, in-service, workshops, and higher education.
• Will use data to plan instruction and evaluate student progress
• Will have the ability to give directions to paraprofessionals
• Will be skilled at collaborating with general education teachers and other school team members
• Will have the ability to create schedules for inclusion
• Will have the ability to use and implement the Ohio Extended Standards
• Will have knowledge of the Alternate Assessment for Students with Significant Cognitive Disabilities (AASCD)
• Knowledge and experience with research-based best practices in specialized instruction
• Knowledge of Ohio Learning Standards
• Knowledge of Operating Standards for Ohio's Educational Agencies Serving Children with Disabilities
• Knowledge of Ohio Model Policies and Procedures
• Knowledge of federal and state legislation
• Strong oral and written communication skills
