About The Position

We currently have a career opportunity for an InterSystems Iris Developer to join our team located in New York. This is a contract position with an initial duration of 2 months, with the possibility of extension and CTH. A successful InterSystems IRIS Developer leads the design, development, modernization, and support of business-critical platforms built on InterSystems Cache and InterSystems IRIS. You will translate product needs into scalable technical solutions, strengthen engineering practices, and partner across teams to deliver secure, reliable, and high-performing applications. You may also mentor developers, improve operational resilience, and help drive continuous modernization in a regulated environment. The ideal candidate is a hands-on InterSystems engineer who can quickly contribute to integration and interoperability initiatives, has strong ObjectScript and HL7 expertise, and thrives in healthcare technology environments where reliability, compliance, and quality are critical.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience developing solutions with InterSystems IRIS or InterSystems Caché.
  • Strong proficiency in ObjectScript development.
  • Experience building and supporting: Custom Classes, Productions, Business Services, Business Processes, Business Operations.
  • Experience using the IRIS/HealthShare Management Portal.
  • Strong experience with HL7 v2 interface development, support, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a broader delivery team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Candidates must be comfortable working within an FDA and HIPAA regulated clinical laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and support data-informed task execution.
  • Familiarity with AI-enhanced platforms.
  • A solid understanding of AI capabilities and limitations including ethical considerations is expected.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience developing FHIR APIs and interoperability services.
  • Experience with: Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), Clinical diagnostics platforms, Healthcare interoperability solutions.
  • Experience working in clinical laboratory, healthcare, or regulated healthcare environments.
  • Understanding of healthcare interoperability standards and integration patterns.
  • InterSystems Certified Developer certification.
  • Experience with Epic Beaker.
  • Familiarity with Epic implementations and laboratory modernization initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead solution design and end-to-end delivery for applications built on InterSystems Cache and InterSystems IRIS, translating product requirements into technical designs while identifying dependencies, tradeoffs, risks, and phased delivery plans.
  • Design, develop, test, debug, and document ObjectScript-based services, APIs, batch processes, and data workflows, while driving code quality through coding standards, code reviews, pairing, and automated checks.
  • Optimize data-centric applications by modeling and tuning IRIS/Cache data structures, SQL access, persistent classes, queries, and application logic for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Lead modernization and integration efforts, including legacy component upgrades and migrations such as Cache to IRIS, while maintaining backward compatibility and implementing REST APIs, messaging, and file or batch integration patterns.
  • Support operational excellence by troubleshooting incidents, performing root-cause analysis, implementing preventive improvements, embedding secure software development practices, partnering with security and risk teams, and mentoring engineers across engineering, QA, architecture, architecture, infrastructure, and product teams.
  • Design, develop, and maintain InterSystems IRIS solutions supporting laboratory and healthcare interoperability initiatives.
  • Create and enhance ObjectScript-based components, including: Custom classes, Productions, Business Services, Business Processes, Business Operations.
  • Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot solutions using the IRIS/HealthShare Management Portal.
  • Develop, support, and optimize HL7 v2 interfaces and message workflows.
  • Troubleshoot integration issues and perform root cause analysis across interface environments.
  • Collaborate with technical architects, consultants, and client stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Assist with modernization efforts related to laboratory system integrations and instrument connectivity.
  • Participate in requirements analysis, solution design, testing, deployment, and production support activities.
  • Ensure solutions comply with healthcare regulatory requirements and best practices.
