About The Position

The Interpreter 3 position at Stark State College plays a crucial role in facilitating communication for deaf or hard of hearing students by providing sign language interpreting for college classes and other college related activities. The interpreter serves as a liaison between deaf or hard of hearing students, instructors/faculty, staff, and hearing students. Requirements

  • A minimum of an associate's degree
  • A minimum of two years of experience interpreting for the deaf in an educational setting
  • Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends and at both the Akron site and the North Canton main location of Stark State College.
  • Ability to interpret and facilitate communication for deaf or hard of hearing students.
  • Comfort and ability to communicate with instructors and/or staff about the role of interpreting in providing access for deaf or hard of hearing students.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with students and College employees.
  • Experience working with a diverse population of individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • A minimum of two years of interpreting experience in a college or university environment
  • Certification through Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)

Responsibilities

  • Providing interpreting for the deaf or hard of hearing students for college classes and other college-related activities.
  • Interpret lectures, discussions, conversations, meetings, events, tutoring sessions, etc.
