About The Position

The Interpreter 3 position at Stark State College plays a crucial role in facilitating communication for deaf or hard of hearing students by providing sign language interpreting for college classes and other college related activities. The interpreter serves as a liaison between deaf or hard of hearing students, instructors/faculty, staff, and hearing students. Requirements

A minimum of an associate's degree
A minimum of two years of experience interpreting for the deaf in an educational setting
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
Flexibility to work days, evenings, weekends and at both the Akron site and the North Canton main location of Stark State College.
Ability to interpret and facilitate communication for deaf or hard of hearing students.
Comfort and ability to communicate with instructors and/or staff about the role of interpreting in providing access for deaf or hard of hearing students.
Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with students and College employees.
Experience working with a diverse population of individuals.

Nice To Haves

A minimum of two years of interpreting experience in a college or university environment
Certification through Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)

Responsibilities

Providing interpreting for the deaf or hard of hearing students for college classes and other college-related activities.
Interpret lectures, discussions, conversations, meetings, events, tutoring sessions, etc.
