About The Position

The Interoperability Labs (UNH-IOL) is a commercially funded independent testing facility for networking and data communications devices and software. Interoperability Managers are responsible for applying highly developed technical expertise to manage vendor and project relations, dealing directly with potential customers as a first point of contact. They work to develop, track, and report key performance measurements for testing projects, develop and implement processes and procedures to improve operational efficiency, and serve as a lead technical developer or project manager for new technical services (e.g. emerging data communications testing). This is a technical, hands-on position that requires familiarity with network configuration, programming, high attention to detail, scripting concepts, and a strong interest in mentoring and developing college students for future careers in the industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field
  • Knowledge of networking fundamentals, including VLANs, IP, TCP/UDP, and similar protocols
  • Advanced programming experience with at least two different programming languages
  • Experience creating technical documents
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member
  • Ability to organize and lead meetings, both virtual and in-person
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Troubleshooting experience; ability to respond quickly and isolate complex issues with networking devices
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and related cloud systems
  • Open Source project participation / experience

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (electrical engineering or computer science)
  • Demonstrated understanding of data communications; communication between computer systems or devices and testing practices and methodologies
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies

Responsibilities

  • Oversee projects within the Open Source team, and coordinate activities and development assigned to employees.
  • Assist in preparing project reports and project plans.
  • Work directly with customers to address concerns or issues with the services.
  • Oversee Open Source development teams to ensure continued progress on assigned tasks and goals.
  • Attend community meetings as assigned to capture customer and community feedback.

  • Manage agile project teams of employees in order to improve current services through research and development (i.e increase testing efficiency and throughput).
  • Create project epics, stories, and tasks for projects and ensure issues are assigned to and updated by the project developers.
  • Supervise hourly employees (approx. 5 to 10) as assigned, within the Open Source team in order to meet customer needs.
  • Support the technical requirements, setup, maintenance and operation of assigned test services related to data communications and networking.
  • Train and mentor employees working in the Open Source services on the technologies and infrastructure used to provide UNH-IOL hosted resources, such as virtualization, containers, basic programming, and system administration.
  • Implement laboratory training policies; train and mentor employees on assigned technology areas, agile methodologies, and applicable policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the development projects within the Open Source groups, writing code, setting up and maintaining development environments/systems, and participating in code reviews.
  • Ensure development projects and internal operations include applicable documentation, captures within the UNH-IOL’s Wiki (or similar) and all documentation is complete.
  • Work with fellow staff members to provide input into the annual strategic plans.
