The Connecticut Institute for Refugees and Immigrants is seeking a dedicated intern to support the Refugee Department. The intern would work in the Program for Initial Resettlement (PIR) to provide intensive case management for refugees living in the United States for 90 days or less. Since the Program for Initial Resettlement is the initial arrival program for refugees, the primary goal is to assist them in their integration, while giving them the best possible chance at self-sufficiency. Interns will work with case managers to help refugee clients newly arriving in America including their housing set up, education enrollment, and initial medical appointments. This is a hands-on experience, composed in equal parts of work inside the office and in the community. Interns will be asked to visit clients and may accompany them to certain appointments, such as health assessments, Social Security, and DSS appointments, when the case manager is not available.
