Requirements

  • Be in pursuit of a community/urban planning, urban design, or closely related degree.
  • Have a reliable means of transportation to travel to office locations and project sites.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
  • Strong communication, technical writing, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in using online and creative graphics programs and GIS software is a plus but not necessarily required.
  • Familiarity with regulations, practices, and approaches to complex community/urban planning initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Development Services staff on projects focused on community planning, economic development and redevelopment, brownfield revitalization, and sustainable land use planning.
  • Support staff through data collection, site and technical analysis, review and make recommendations on regulatory and policy considerations for community partners.
  • Assist in community engagement activities, including preparing materials for public meetings, workshops, and stakeholder sessions to communicate community planning and economic development concepts and gather input.
  • Develop graphics, maps, and visualizations that illustrate community planning, economic development and redevelopment concepts for diverse audiences such as residents, elected officials, and project partners.
  • Compile and analyze data related to social, economic, housing, environmental, and land use trends to inform community planning strategies and policy recommendations.
  • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings from technical analysis, community feedback, and project feasibility studies.
  • Conduct research and create planning documents, including site diagrams, conceptual plans, and technical summaries under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Gain exposure to project management fundamentals, including proposal development, budgeting, and scheduling community planning projects.
