Requirements

Be in pursuit of a community/urban planning, urban design, or closely related degree.
Have a reliable means of transportation to travel to office locations and project sites.
Possess a valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
Strong communication, technical writing, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Nice To Haves

Proficient in using online and creative graphics programs and GIS software is a plus but not necessarily required.
Familiarity with regulations, practices, and approaches to complex community/urban planning initiatives.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with Development Services staff on projects focused on community planning, economic development and redevelopment, brownfield revitalization, and sustainable land use planning.
Support staff through data collection, site and technical analysis, review and make recommendations on regulatory and policy considerations for community partners.
Assist in community engagement activities, including preparing materials for public meetings, workshops, and stakeholder sessions to communicate community planning and economic development concepts and gather input.
Develop graphics, maps, and visualizations that illustrate community planning, economic development and redevelopment concepts for diverse audiences such as residents, elected officials, and project partners.
Compile and analyze data related to social, economic, housing, environmental, and land use trends to inform community planning strategies and policy recommendations.
Prepare reports and presentations summarizing findings from technical analysis, community feedback, and project feasibility studies.
Conduct research and create planning documents, including site diagrams, conceptual plans, and technical summaries under the guidance of senior staff.
Gain exposure to project management fundamentals, including proposal development, budgeting, and scheduling community planning projects.
