About The Position

APM Terminals is seeking interns to enhance their technical and personal work experience as part of their internship program, preparing them for the challenges of terminal automation. The program offers practical exposure to maintenance management, equipment reliability, and engineering support activities within a large-scale port environment. Interns will learn from experienced professionals, participate in automation and continuous improvement initiatives, and develop valuable skills in a diverse, multinational workplace.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree program with a STEM focus, preferably Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Interest in engineering, maintenance, equipment reliability, and troubleshooting.
  • Programming knowledge and proficiency with PC applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow directions in a dynamic operational environment.

  • Continuous improvement mindset: someone who brings a thoughtful improvement mindset, curious about how work gets done and motivated to make meaningful, sustainable improvements over time.
  • Basic knowledge or experience in control systems, robotics, maintenance, mechanical systems, or electrical systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintenance management activities and initiatives that improve equipment and system performance.
  • Support preventive maintenance processes, equipment inspections, troubleshooting activities, and safety practices.
  • Help review and improve routine maintenance and repair checklists.
  • Assist with data entry, maintenance shift reports, equipment records, and maintenance software updates.
  • Apply basic mechanical, electrical, and automation principles while supporting daily operations.
  • Participate in equipment troubleshooting efforts and help identify opportunities to reduce repetitive breakdowns and improve reliability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects, safety initiatives, and other assigned learning projects.
