Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in international trade compliance, preferably within aerospace or defense.
  • Strong working knowledge of EAR, export licensing, ECCN classification, and customs regulations.
  • Experience interfacing with U.S. government agencies (e.g., DDTC, BIS).
  • Proven ability to implement processes and controls in a regulated environment.
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to translate complex regulations into practical guidance.
  • Experience with trade compliance software and ERP systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with both commercial and military aerospace programs.
  • Knowledge of non-U.S. export regulations (e.g., EU Dual-Use).
  • Professional certification (e.g., customs broker, export compliance certification).
  • Multilingual capability.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with global trade regulations, including EAR, and applicable customs laws.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and translate them into actionable internal policies and procedures.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external audits, assessments, and government inquiries.
  • Develop and execute export licensing strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Prepare, submit, and manage export license applications (e.g., DSPs, BIS licenses), agreements, and exemptions.
  • Maintain license compliance, recordkeeping, and usage tracking.
  • Lead classification activities for hardware, software, and technical data (ECCN, HTS codes).
  • Establish and maintain a standardized classification process integrated with engineering and product lifecycle workflows.
  • Conduct risk assessments across programs, customers, and geographies.
  • Design and implement internal controls to prevent violations and ensure audit readiness.
  • Investigate and resolve potential compliance issues, including voluntary disclosures if required.
  • Evaluate, implement, and manage tools integrated with ERP/PLM systems.
  • Drive automation of screening, classification, licensing, and recordkeeping processes.
  • Partner with Engineering, Program Management, Supply Chain, and Legal to ensure compliance is embedded early in program execution.
  • Support international collaborations, including data sharing, joint development, and offset obligations.
  • Develop and deliver training programs on export controls and trade compliance requirements.
  • Create clear, enforceable work instructions and guidance for business stakeholders.
  • Provide regular reporting to senior leadership on compliance status, risks, and key metrics.
  • Maintain documentation and records in accordance with regulatory retention requirements.
