About The Position

DMPS is seeking a coordinator for international exchange programs, specifically supporting our exchange partnership with Kofu, Japan. Prior experience supporting exchange programs is strongly preferred. This role is classified as a Teacher Supplemental Pay position and is part of the DMEA Teacher bargaining group. The coordinator will be responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with local and Kofu, Japan Board of Education departments, fostering aspects of the cultural proficiency framework, and increasing international relations between the cities of Des Moines and Kofu, Japan. The position also involves representing Des Moines Public Schools effectively and serving as a designated delegate for Kofu, Japan teachers, administrators, and community members visiting Des Moines.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
Current DMPS employee
Valid Iowa teaching license (appropriate endorsement code for teaching assignment).
Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse workforce and student population.
Effective written and oral communication.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Maintain confidentiality.
Attend work on a prompt and regular basis, including days, evenings, weekends, and summer when necessary.
Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.

Responsibilities

Establish and maintain relationship with local and Kofu, Japan Board of Education departments.
Foster aspects of the cultural proficiency framework and determine opportunities to facilitate in real-world scenarios with students and staff of Des Moines.
Increase international relations with the city of Des Moines and Kofu, Japan, especially between the mayor’s office of each city.
Represent the Des Moines Public Schools effectively in the community, state, national, and world.
Serve as designated delegate for all Kofu, Japan teachers, administrators, and community members traveling to Des Moines throughout the school year.
Collaborate and build community relationships to gain involvement in Kofu Exchange events.
