Internal Medicine Physician
About The Position
SEARHC is a non-profit health consortium serving the residents of Southeast Alaska. We are seeking an Internal Medicine Physician (MD/DO) to provide full-scope outpatient primary care in a collaborative, team-based clinic co-located within a new and modern critical access hospital. This is a unique opportunity to practice broad-spectrum internal medicine with strong support, advanced technology, and a lifestyle-driven schedule. The position involves practicing in a brand-new clinic and co-located hospital with modern infrastructure in the new $300 million Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center, which opened in April 2026. SEARHC also opened the Wrangell Medical Center in 2021 and has plans to build a third critical-access hospital in Haines, in addition to dozens of established outpatient and traveling clinics throughout the region. The role requires providing the highest quality evidence-based comprehensive medical care to SEARHC patients with a special emphasis on chronic illness in adult and elderly populations. It also involves providing guidance, consultation, and advice to other SEARHC medical staff, including Advanced Practice Clinicians, and when necessary, providing supervision and practice plan oversight. The physician will actively lead and manage a panel of internal medicine patients commensurate with their FTE status and in coordination with the integrated care team, documenting all patient services in the medical record per medical staff rules and regulations. Participation in SEARHC quality and performance improvement programs, and providing medical education and teaching to visiting medical students and resident physicians are also key aspects of the role. The physician will participate in ongoing medical education to maintain licensure and board certification and provide medical services at facilities within the SEARHC care network and other facilities and locations listed in SEARHC’s compact and funding agreement with the Indian Health Service. Requirements
- MD or DO with completion of accredited Internal Medicine residency.
- Board-certified or board-eligible.
- Active Alaska license or ability to obtain.
- BLS required and ACLS encouraged.
- New graduates welcome.
- Well versed in the principles and practices of internal medicine.

- Supports SEARHC standards of care, The Joint Commission, EMTALA, HIPAA, health care risk management principles, and medical ethics.
- Provides high quality health care services including the performance of medical procedures appropriate to the setting.
- Provides clinical leadership, promotes teamwork and collaboration, provides clinical guidance as requested for Advanced Practice Clinicians, and resolves conflict.
- Ability to efficiently utilize the electronic medical record and other clinically required technology.
- Express ideas clearly through oral and written communication skills, analyze complex situations efficiently and problem solve, and effectively implement clinical program strategies.
- Communicates in an open, respectful, helpful, supportive, and collaborative manner with staff and patients.
- Is sensitive and responsive to culture, race, age, gender, and disabilities of patients and staff.

- Minor and major surgical skills that the physician has received adequate training in and remained proficient at that skill.
