About The Position

The Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine is seeking a clinician-educator to practice and teach general internal medicine in a patient-centered medical home. This role will also serve as the Anschutz Internal Medicine Clinic Medical Director. The physician will provide care for patients at the Anschutz Internal Medicine Clinic, with opportunities for precepting residents and students. Faculty share responsibilities for night, weekend, and vacation coverage and will participate in decisions regarding practice operation. The clinician-educator will have opportunities for academic promotion based on excellence as a clinician/educator/scholar and are encouraged to collaborate on clinical research projects. Additionally, the physician will serve as the Anschutz Internal Medicine Clinic Medical Director, providing vision, direction, and support to clinic operations. This includes providing comprehensive care for adult patients, focusing on diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and long-term management of acute and chronic conditions. The role involves patient communication and education, referrals to specialists, and consultation on quality initiatives such as NCQA and CPC+. Collaboration with the Clinic Residency Director is expected to ensure integration of educational needs and clinic operations. Responsibilities also include participating in interviewing and selecting new faculty, providing new faculty orientation and supervision, offering feedback, and participating in PIPs as needed. Consultation for division goals regarding productivity, hours, and revenue is required, as is leading the development of clinic plans for additional funding. The physician may represent GIM Primary Care in various Division, Department, School, CU Medicine, and UCHealth System meetings as a technical advisor, content matter expert, advocate, or system-thinker. This role may represent individual clinics, all GIM Primary Care clinics, and/or the collective needs of the Division and will attend routine meetings monthly.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine
  • Current State of Colorado Medical License by the employment start date
  • Professional history of leadership
  • Three (3) or more years of professional experience as an internal medicine clinician (for Senior Instructor)
  • Seven (7) or more years of professional experience as an internal medicine clinician-educator (for Associate Professor)
  • Rank of Associate Professor, or equivalent, already attained at a prior academic institution (for Associate Professor)
  • Fourteen (14) or more years of professional experience as an internal medicine clinician-educator (for Professor)
  • Rank of Professor, or equivalent, already attained at a prior academic institution (for Professor)

Nice To Haves

  • Current DEA by employment start date
  • 0-7 years’ experience as an MD or DO
  • Fellowship experience will be considered under years’ experience
  • Experience as a primary care medical director

Responsibilities

  • Provide care for patients at the Anschutz Internal Medicine Clinic.

  • Provide clinic-specific new faculty orientation.
  • Provide supervision for faculty in clinic, offering feedback or participating in PIPs.
  • Provide consultation for division goals for productivity, hours, and revenue.
  • Lead the development of clinic plan for additional funding (CPC+ or UPL).
  • Serve as a GIM Primary Care representative to various meetings.
  • Represent their individual clinic, all GIM Primary Care clinics, and/or the collective needs of the Division.
