About The Position

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) is undergoing a period of growth and transformation, focusing on advancing its mission in high-value care, research, innovation, and medical education. The Division of Oncology is a dynamic and expanding program dedicated to patient care, research, and education. Faculty provide comprehensive cancer care across UTMB’s hospitals, offering advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services, multidisciplinary management of complex malignancies, and participation in clinical trials. The Division is committed to advancing cancer care through research, education, and collaboration, working closely with other medical teams to deliver compassionate, patient-centered treatment. The ACGME-accredited Medical Oncology Fellowship Program trains fellows with a comprehensive curriculum and diverse experiences. The Division also plays an active role in educating medical students and residents. UTMB is seeking a full-time physician for the Division of Medical Oncology. This role focuses on high-quality clinical cancer care, teaching, and contributing to the department's academic mission. The successful candidate will join a team dedicated to exceptional oncology care, advancing clinical education, and participating in scholarly activities, quality improvement, and research initiatives.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.
  • Eligible for medical licensure in the State of Texas.

  • Experience in an academic medical center or teaching environment.
  • Demonstrated involvement in scholarly activity, clinical research, quality improvement projects, or curriculum development in oncology.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive outpatient and/or inpatient oncology care, including management of solid tumors, hematologic malignancies, and supportive oncology care.
  • Participate in chemotherapy administration, clinical trials, and multidisciplinary tumor boards.
  • Supervise and teach medical students, residents, and fellows in both clinical and didactic oncology settings.
  • Engage in departmental and divisional quality improvement, patient safety, and evidence-based practice initiatives.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including surgery, radiation oncology, radiology, pathology, and palliative care—for optimal patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, clinical skills training, and oncology-focused academic programs.
