About The Position

Nomura's Global Internal Audit Division provides independent assurance to senior management and the Board, reinforcing the firm's sound risk culture and control environment. We operate across major financial centers and collaborate closely with the First and Second Lines of Defense to evaluate and enhance governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance. The Internal Auditor Associate – Credit & Market Risk acts as the functional Subject Matter Expert (SME) for assessing the Second Line of Defense (2LoD) oversight of credit and market risks within Nomura's Wholesale Division businesses. The auditor will evaluate how the Credit & Market Risk functions identify, measure, monitor, and report risk exposures, and how risk appetite frameworks translate across asset classes, products and regions. This role focuses exclusively on credit and market risk management audits. However, developing familiarity with how models and valuation processes feed into credit and market risk frameworks is expected to ensure effective collaboration with Internal Audit’s Model Risk and Valuation SMEs. This is a hands-on, analytical role suited to professionals who combine regulatory and product knowledge with a quantitative mindset, advanced analytics capabilities, and strong stakeholder engagement skills. Knowledge of derivative products, credit risk measurement methodologies, Basel III requirements and data analytics, tools, and methodologies are considered key requirements.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in Credit Risk Management in a major Investment Bank.
  • Experience or interaction with Market Risk Management is highly desirable.
  • Alternatively, Credit and Market Risk audit experience at a Big 4 or similar large-scale professional services firm is also preferred.
  • Knowledge of Market Risk management processes, controls and limits.
  • Bachelor’s degree in quantitative sciences, Business, Finance, or Risk Management.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with teams in the US, EMEA, and Asia.
  • Confident manner and well-developed communication (both verbal and written), influencing, interpersonal and project management skills.
  • Ability to execute audit work adhering to Nomura’s internal audit methodology, and to effectively discuss control issues with senior auditees.
  • Knowledge of credit risk processes, including credit risk underwriting and sanctioning, counterparty credit risk management, wholesale credit risk governance, relevant regulatory requirements etc. a plus
  • Understanding of regulatory/supervisory guidance impacting credit risk such CFTC’s Risk Management Program (17 CFR 23.600), EBA Capital Requirements Directive IV (CRD-IV), Capital Requirements Regulation (CRR) Rulebook, and BCBS Counterparty Credit Risk guidelines a plus

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in all phases of our credit risk audits, assisting with the design, creating tests, documenting workpapers, drafting issues, and presenting findings to senior audit management.
  • Assist is monitoring the audit budget, identifying deviations from the plan, and presenting status reports to the Auditor-in-Charge (AIC).
  • Participate in other functional audits such as market risk.
  • Actively promote and ensure consistency with Internal Audit policies and foster a strong understanding of professional practices across the team.
  • Maintain a current understanding of changes to Nomura’s credit risk profile, organization, and regulatory environment within your assigned area and close partnership with key stakeholders. This includes assisting in writing a Continuous Monitoring quarterly update for senior management regarding (1) notable changes impacting the inherent risk of the audit entity; (2) changes in the control environment, and (3) changes to the audit plan and risk assessment.
  • Work with the Credit Risk Audit team to document in detail the Credit Risk coverage across key dimensions of business lines, material legal entities and regulations, and assist in developing a 3-yr audit cycle in line with Internal Audit methodology.
  • Collaborate with the team manager and colleagues to provide support on audit requests, special projects and follow up issues.
  • Collaborate with global data analytics and AI COE to develop and implement custom data analytics and automated testing for specific audit reviews to identify control weaknesses while also contributing to the design and maintenance of sustainable continuous monitoring tests for ongoing auditing.
