About The Position

BHE GT&S is offering a summer internship with its External Affairs and Communications department at the company’s general office in Bridgeport, West Virginia. The intern will gain hands-on experience in internal and external communications, public affairs, government relations, and external advocacy, working in a safety-conscious workplace. The internship is on site for at least eight weeks and is scheduled to begin June 7, 2027. Depending on the intern’s summer schedule and business needs, it may begin earlier or be extended. An independent means of transportation is needed because public transportation is limited in the area. Successful candidates who live 50 miles or more from the assigned work location may be eligible for a one-time housing stipend.

Requirements

Be a full-time student attending a four-year university and majoring in communications, public affairs, political science, public administration, or a similar program.
Have a GPA of at least 2.5.
Have strong attention to detail.
Be self-directed.
Demonstrate initiative, customer service, judgment, and innovation.
Be able to speak persuasively and develop rapport.
Be able to write and develop presentations.
Be proficient in computer skills.
Be able to plan and organize work.
Have independent transportation for the summer internship because public transportation options near the work location are limited.
Be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation.

Nice To Haves

A GPA of 3.0 is preferred.

Responsibilities

Support the government affairs team, including attending legislative and agency meetings and taking notes.
Assist with growth project outreach, including document preparation and open house support.
Conduct policy research in support of anticipated energy legislation to be considered in 2027.
