About The Position

This position would provide veterinary, including emergency care, to equine patients admitted to Animal Health Center. This position will rotate between the equine medicine and surgery services. They will rotate emergency duty with other equine residents and interns. This position will work with the Equine faculty to provide care for patients presenting for ongoing medical or surgical problems, preventive care, and emergency treatments. They are responsible for ensuring the treatments prescribed by the faculty are carried out accurately and in compliance with standard practices. This position also monitors and responds to status changes of hospitalized patients under their care. They will maintain records of the veterinary care provided and capture associated fees in compliance with standard practices. While on emergency duty they are responsible for answering calls from veterinarians and clients seeking care for their equine patients at the Animal Health Center. They routinely meet clients at the Animal Health Center after hours, including weekends, to provide emergency care to large animals. In the course of their duties in the hospital they are responsible for educating veterinary students on case management decisions, therapies, and techniques.

Requirements

  • Eligible for employment in the U.S. at the time they apply for a position at MSU-CVM.
  • Graduate of an AVMA-accredited veterinary school or have completed the entire ECFVG qualification process by the time of the commencement of this position.
  • Passed the NAVLE licensure examination.

Responsibilities

  • 100% clinical service appointment within the Animal Health Center.
  • Rotate between the equine medicine and surgery services.
  • Rotate emergency duty with other equine residents and interns.
