About The Position

This internship focuses on applied biological sciences, offering students the opportunity to study and improve biological processes. Interns will work as part of a team to complete research, develop, and analyze projects in areas such as aerosol sciences, epidemiology, and biology. The role involves tackling challenging technical national security problems in an exciting and collaborative environment. Interns will learn standard biological and aerosol laboratory and analytic skills, methods for operating analytical instrumentation, and support experimentation. Activities may include experimental design, conducting experiments in laboratory or field settings, data analysis, and presentation of results. Specific topic areas include the effects of the environment on biological organisms, genomic sequencing and metagenomic analysis of organisms in complex environmental samples, and single organism analytical tool development.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Bioaerosol Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Biophysics, Genetics, Environmental Sciences, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a similar major.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
  • Excel at analytical thinking and creative problem solving.
  • General comprehension of biology-related fields such as microbiology.
  • Some awareness of general laboratory equipment and methods.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Matlab, Labview, Python Java, and/or basic microbiology culture techniques.
