About The Position

The Intern position provides students and emerging professionals with an opportunity to gain practical experience in local government operations while applying academic knowledge in a professional work environment. Interns assist department staff with projects, administrative functions, research, customer service, and operational activities while developing skills related to their field of study and career interests. Under the guidance of a supervisor or designated mentor, interns participate in meaningful assignments that support departmental goals and contribute to the delivery of services to Rockdale County residents and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, elected officials, residents, and the public.
  • Ability to organize work, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to conduct research and analyze information.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to a professional work environment.
  • Current enrollment in an accredited high school, technical college, undergraduate, graduate, or professional degree program; or recent graduate within one year of program completion.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Ability to perform assigned duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with administrative, operational, technical, and project-related activities.
  • Conducts research, gathers data, and prepares reports, presentations, and correspondence.
  • Assists with organizing and maintaining records, files, and databases.
  • Provides customer service and responds to inquiries from employees, residents, vendors, or other stakeholders.
  • Supports special projects, events, meetings, and departmental initiatives.
  • Assists with data entry, document preparation, and information management.
  • Participates in departmental meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities.
  • Observes and learns governmental policies, procedures, and operations.
  • Collaborates with employees and other interns to complete assigned projects and tasks.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information and complies with all County policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
