About The Position

CENTERS is a management company that specializes in campus recreation, partnering with universities to manage their departments, facilities, finances, and deliver exceptional customer service. Since 1998, CENTERS has been dedicated to student development and departmental excellence. The internship program is designed for students interested in a career in the Recreation industry, specifically juniors, seniors, or master's level students seeking class credit or experience before pursuing a graduate assistantship or full-time employment. Campus Recreation Interns will gain experience comparable to graduate assistants and be treated as professional staff, with responsibilities including program development and oversight, student staff development and oversight, and project development and execution.

Requirements

  • Seeking or recently completed Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Sports Management, Recreation Management, Elementary Education, Physical Education or related field.
  • Currently certified in CPR/AED/FA (or willing to obtain within two weeks of employment).
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA (Preferred 3.0 GPA or higher).
  • High personal integrity.
  • Ability to work as part of a professional team that collaborates effectively with colleagues.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and enthusiasm.
  • Analytical skills to: identify problems, assess alternatives, render consistent, logical decisions.
  • Knowledge of standard practices in recreational sports.
  • Ability to thrive in an environment that values high expectations, accountability, and balanced lifestyles.
  • Ability to pass national and local background check.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Nice To Haves

  • AED/CPR Certified (or willing to obtain)
  • Previous experience working with children highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work 20 to 25 hours per week depending on departmental needs.
  • Assist the Coordinator of Aquatics & Youth Programming with the administration, management, and supervision of a comprehensive array of Youth Programming initiatives serving children aged 5-12.
  • Plan, market, promote, schedule, execute, budget, and evaluate 10-week long summer camp sessions.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, develop, and evaluate up to 35 summer camp counselors.
  • Assist the Coordinator of Aquatics & Youth Programming in planning, organization, execution, and evaluation of a formal training program for summer camp counselors.
  • Manage the registration process and logistics related to summer camps.
  • Provide the highest level of customer service to parents, student staff, and children enrolled in camps.
  • During camp weeks, enforce Campus Recreation facility, program, and pool policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Serve as liaison between parents and summer camp counselors, as well as liaison between parents and Coordinator of Aquatics & Youth Programming.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to emergencies. Responsible for risk management.
  • Compile statistics and reports to assess and evaluate the success of summer camps.
  • Utilize online survey tool to gather parent feedback.
  • Make recommendations for summer camp programming, inventory, and budget.
  • Assisting in facility and office management.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Work within a non-smoking environment.
  • Other duties as required.
