About The Position

The City of Winter Park’s Sustainability Program is seeking to hire a part-time intern to assist staff with conducting research and development of programs, guidelines, and practices related to sustainability planning and policy. The intern will support the City of Winter Park’s Sustainability Manager and Specialist to assist the city in achieving its sustainability goals defined in the Sustainability Action Plan as it relates to Waste Diversion, Mobility & Urban Form, Local Food, Community Engagement & Green Economy, Natural Resources, Buildings & Energy and Local Government Operations. This paid internship requires a minimum of at least one semester (~4 months).

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program in fields such as Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, Biology, or other closely related field.
  • Ability to collect, organize and analyze information, perform research and operate a personal computer. (Microsoft Office-Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices of sustainable development, traditional town planning, transportation and land use
  • Possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Driver’s License, Class E or higher.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior work experience on issues related to sustainability preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the monitoring, development and implementation of the city’s Sustainability Action Plan
  • Attend appropriate city meetings, including the Keep Winter Park Beautiful & Sustainable Advisory Board
  • Coordinate and attend community outreach, volunteer and educational events related to sustainability
  • Conduct research and development of policies, projects and programs outlined in Sustainability Action Plan
  • Work with other community organizations and partners to develop outreach and communication
