This is a research related unpaid internship in a laboratory setting, providing closely supervised training and the ability to develop professional skills. Duties include basic laboratory maintenance such as glassware washing; autoclaving; media, solution and buffer prep; replenishing supplies and following experimental procedures assigned by laboratory staff. This internship provides hands-on experience in behavioral neuroscience and addiction research within a collaborative academic research laboratory. The intern will support animal behavioral studies by conducting behavioral assays, monitoring body weight and food and water intake, assisting with drug administration, and collecting and analyzing experimental data under close supervision. The intern will receive training in animal handling, genotyping, and a variety of experimental techniques used in neuropharmacological research on substance use disorders, including operant conditioning and other behavioral models. Through this experience, the intern will gain practical skills in behavioral research, data collection and analysis, and the broader experimental process of addiction research. Previous undergraduate interns and research assistants in our laboratory have received rigorous training in scientific research, contributed to peer-reviewed publications, and subsequently been admitted to competitive PhD and MD programs at leading institutions, including UCLA, UC Davis, Stanford, and others. This internship provides an excellent opportunity for undergraduate students interested in neuroscience, psychology, pharmacology, biomedical sciences, or related fields to gain meaningful research experience and prepare for future graduate or professional training.
