About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Research and Development Intern to join our Oncology Medical Team located in Durham, NC! This is an 11-week paid internship where you’ll work on impactful projects and gain real-world experience, all while supporting our mission to improve health and improve lives. The Labcorp Oncology Research and Development Department develops and validates new Oncology clinical test across the Labcorp Enterprise. This internship will work with the team in San Diego, California on developing or further improving an Oncology-focused assay or testing capability. As a Labcorp intern, you’ll be immersed in hands-on work that complements your academic background. In addition to your project work, you’ll gain valuable exposure to Labcorp’s global business, culture, and leadership through enterprise-wide learning experiences, leadership exposure and visibility, an immersive in-person intern event, senior leader speaker sessions, continuous opportunities to connect and grow, connection to Labcorp’s inclusive culture, and dedicated mentoring connections.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s degree program in Biology, Chemistry, Genetics or Biological Science
  • Preferred candidates are rising juniors and seniors (Dec 2027 through June 2029 graduation) who are currently enrolled in a relevant degree program; however, all current students pursuing related studies are encouraged to apply
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship now or in the future

Nice To Haves

  • 3-6 months experience with Next Generation Sequencing technologies
  • Hands-on experience in a cell or molecular biology-based laboratory
  • Interest in the clinical testing or molecular research fields
  • Curiosity and eagerness to learn new things

Responsibilities

  • Learn about clinical testing and processing behind testing development
  • Learn techniques, including Next Generation Sequencing and data analysis
  • Development lead for a new Oncology Next Generation Sequencing assay
  • Maintain clear, thorough, and accurate experiment notes
  • Apply critical thinking skills to experimental results
  • Communicate findings at laboratory meetings
