About The Position

The South Dakota Department of Health is seeking a Public Health Preparedness and Response Intern. This internship will involve engaging and communicating with public health preparedness staff in emergency plan updates, planning meetings, training, exercises, inventory and warehouse management, and ongoing public health emergency responses. The intern will gain valuable experience in public health emergency preparedness. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders and key information sources, strong self-direction, and the ability to take on and lead projects.

Requirements

  • Applicant must be enrolled as a part-time/full-time student at a college, university, or technical institute at the time they apply.
  • By the start of the internship, the student should have completed one year (nine months) of their chosen program.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs or more.
  • Must be willing to travel throughout South Dakota.
